Happy Birthday to Mozart of Madras AR Rahman

Music maestro AR Rahman has always spread magic with his music. Rahman has stolen millions of hearts across the world with his stupendous and captivating performances.

Mozart of Madras aka AR Rahman was born to RK Shekhar who was a film score composer and conductor for Tamil and Malayalam films. Rahman assisted his father in the studio by playing the keyboard. Rahman was nine years old when his father passed away and his father’s musical equipment rentals were his family’s income.

Producer Rajan introduced AR Rahman in a children’s programme titled ‘Wandor Ballon’ on national television Doordarshan. It seemed like a big achievement in those days to see a kid playing four keyboards. Soon after the programme was aired, people started recognizing him on the street and said, ‘Oh, it’s that kid. We saw him on TV last Sunday.’

The Oscar winner was just 11 years old when he joined the troupe of famous South Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja. He later graduated from the Trinity College at Oxford University, with a degree in Western classical music.

The greatest composer changed his name from Dilip Kumar to A.R.Rahman as he never liked it.
AR Rahman was asked to leave the school at the age of 15 for his poor attendance. Rahman does not celebrate his birthday lavishly. He offers morning prayers and visits the orphanage to celebrate his birthday peacefully.

From his first film “Roja” in the year 1992 AR Rahman won Filmfare Award South for Best Music Direction since then a non-stop- ‘Awards rain’ consisting of various Awards from India and many other countries started pouring on AR Rahman. The “Man of Music” AR Rahman has bagged two Oscar awards in the 81st Acadamy Awards or Oscars, having the record of being the first Indian to bag two Oscars.

One after the other AR Rahman notched up many other hits like Bombay, Kadhalan, Indira, Minsaara Kanavu, Muthu and Love Birds, Swades, Rang De Basanti and Guru. His music was very different from the rest of the pack. He made his debut in Bollywood with the film Rangeela, directed by Ram Gopal Varma. He has worked with all the leading directors both in Bollywood as well as in the South Indian film industry. He has lot of interests towards Social service. He loves doing that without any kind of fame.

Rahman is the only Indian to be featured in ‘List of best-selling music artists of the world’. Rahman’s son shares his birthday with him. During important film festivals Rahman is very conscious about his wardrobe. His wife Saira and a Mumbai based designer Deepak decide about his dresses.
The old keyboard that he used to play as a teenager is still displayed in his studio. “Penguin Publishers” released the first biography of A.R. Rahman. But due to many reasons Rahman did not accept that as his Biography.

He is very humble, modest and light headed even today and he says “All fame and praise to God only”. Also, he feels awards and honors will not judge correctly the quality of music.
Indeed, there has never been a time Rahman has disappointed the Indian audience. Indeed, there has never been a time Rahman has disappointed the Indian audience. Indeed, there has never been a time Rahman has disappointed the Indian audience.

Music maestro AR Rahman has given India yet another reason to be proud of him again by making it to the nomination list of Oscars for the best original score category for the film “Pele: Birth of Legend.” In this way, Rahman has added a more fame to the rising glory of the Indian motherland.
