The 18 films we’re most excited about in September

Take a look at the movies that are waiting in line to entertain us and offer us something new this month!

Raves are already pouring in for this movie which stars Jr NTR, Samantha and Nithya Menon in the lead roles. Mohanlal, who is one of the most celebrated stars down south is sure to bring something interesting to the table. An element that can pull movie lovers to the theaters is the tagline “ichata anni repairs cheyyabadunu” (All repair works done here). Jr NTR’s love for plants remains a positive factor for the film along with Koratala Siva’s direction and DSP’s soulful music.

Janatha Garage opens September 1.

Science fiction is selling well these days and joining this league is Virkam’s upcoming flick Iru mugan which means two faced. Directed by Anand Shankar, the film has Vikram donning the roles of a secret agent and a determined scientist. Going by the trailer, Nayanthara oozes beauty and continues to win hearts. Nithya too, looks appealing and is all set to give her best shot. The movie is being compared to Hollywood style movies for its screenplay and music by Harris Jayaraj.

Iru Mugan opens September 1.

Movies with female protagonists have always attracted the film fraternity as well as the audiences. Akira is a remake of Tamil film Mouna Guru, with Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role. Story of a tough girl who is not ready to bend before anything that’s wrong, come what may may is definitely worth a watch. Akira is directed by A R Murugadoss, who has previously worked with Sonakshi in Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.

Akira opens September 2.

4. INKOKKADU (Telugu – dubbed version of Tamil movie Irumugan)
Here’s a thing about dubbed movies. They are challenging, because messing with the original can cost an arm and a leg. And critics are always on their toes to throw their opinions. Let us hope Inkokkadu turns out to be a huge success.

Inkokkadu opens September 8.

Makers of this movie have experimented by blending the genre romance with time travel. Besides firebrand kisses of Katrina and Sidharth Malhotra, the movie promises to teach us the importance of seizing every moment in life to the fullest. Needless to say, songs like Kala Chashma and Nachne De Saare have topped the dance numbers’ list. We are guessing that romantics will love it and non-romantics will fall in love with it.

Baar baar dekho opens September 9.

Nawazzudin is introduced as a cricketer by passion, gangster by profession and a golfer by chance. Reflecting back on his film Manjhi, he has a dialogue in the movie which goes like this, “Ghamand toh hum pahadh ka tor deh toh tu kya cheez hai beh (I can break the arrogance of a mountain too).” After films like Manjhi and Gangs of Wasseypur, Nawazuddin is back with another blockbuster role, Ali in this film. He is portrayed as a jack of all trades. Whether or not he is a master, is for us to find out err freak out!

Freaky Ali opens September 9.

This one is for all those who believe, ” Fear is foolishness” Yes, that’s what the title of the film means. Directed by ace director Gautham vasudev Menon, the film revolves around a fearless man who is on a journey to discover something deeper than his cause. Picturesque visuals, AR Rahman’s music and Simbu-Manjima pairing is a guaranteed success.

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada opens September 9.

Movie explores a train hijack scenario, where Dhanush plays the role of a pantry worker and his love interest played by Keerthy Suresh. This will be the director’s first movie with Dhanush after giving hits like Mynaa and Kumki. Movie looks like a tearjerker with some heavy action sequences. Will Dhanush continue to carry the mass appeal? Only time will tell.

Thodari opens September 12.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirtu Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Angad Bedi, Pink is a hard-hitting flick with no theatrics, no effects, no nonsense, just pure acting. Big B plays the role of an attorney shooting endless questions at Taapsee in a court trial. The trailer leaves us guessing as to what the story line is. According to Bachchan, the color pink signifies women empowerment. “The film is about women and their strength so we have kept the title Pink. Women should stand up for their rights. The film is about women,” he said.

Pink opens September 16.

Horror sells in Bollywood and who could have known this better than the makers of Raaz Reboot. This movie is their fourth venture in the Raaz series, starring Emran Hashmi, Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora. Kriti is seen romancing two men in the trailer, be all eyes to know the reason behind this. Movie is sure to scare the hell out of you.

Raaz Reboot opens September 16.

Manchu Vishnu’s upcoming flick Sarada has a nice mix of actors and is a rom-com. Sonarika Bhadoria, Anjali, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Vennela Kishore, Srinivasa Reddy, Prithvi, Jayaprakash Reddy are among the other cast of the movie. Though the details about the plot are uncertain, we believe that the movie is as fun as it sounds considering the huge cast of comedians. We have to see if Vishnu’s bare chest in the teaser can drag his fans to the theaters.

Sarada opens September 16.

It goes without saying that acting comes naturally to Nani. His upcoming flick is Majnu and his portrayal as a heartbroken guy is unlike the conventional. The cast of ‘Majnu’ also includes Anu Emmanuel, Priya Shri, Satya, Posani Krishna Murali, Vennela Kishore, Saptagiri, Satyakrishna and Sivannarayana. Gopi Sunder has scored the music for the film which is directed by Virinchi Verma. The buzz is that a triangle love story forms the crux of this movie.

Majnu opens September 16.

Riteish Deshmukh was tagged as an actor donning roles only in multi-starrers. But this time he is coming up with his solo-starrer Banjo. The movie revolves around the lives of street musicians. Banjo is the first Hindi directorial venture of award-winning Marathi film-maker Ravi Jadhav. Apparently, female lead Nargis Fakri gave green light to the script as she felt this is a kind of movie that would touch hearts.

Banjo opens September 23.

Remember Ayush Khedekar from Slumdog Millionaire? He is back with the movie Ek Tha Hero that talks about the uphill battle faced by a child to realize his dreams. Producer of the movie Sachin Dhakan opined, “Children’s films are a niche genre. Executed right, this genre has a huge market in India that is waiting to be tapped.” Let’s hope that the little hero brings a smile on our face.

Ek Tha Hero opens September 23.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha lead pair Ayushman Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar are all set to recreate the magic in their upcoming flick Manmarziyan. The film also stars Vicky Kaushal of Masaan fame, who plays the third lead. Set in the backdrop of Punjab, this movie explores a love triangle.

Manmarziya opens September 23.

16. MS DHONI – The untold story.
Biographical films have always evoked curiosity among people and most of them have remained huge hits. Following this trend of biographical films is a film exposing the life of our very own cricketer MS Dhoni. Sushant Singh Rajput plays the lead role while the other prominent actors in the film include Kiara Advani, Disha Patani, Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla and Rajesh Sharma. Wishing that ‘MS Dhoni – The untold story’ becomes a true gem of a movie.

MS Dhoni opens September 30.

17. ISM
Sensational director Puri Jagannath is casting Kalyan Ram in his upcoming flick ISM. The teaser was appealing on many levels. Kalyan Ram looked stylish and the tagline (You can arrest him but cannot arrest his idea) just complimented his look. Will Ism turn out to be box-office-friendly? We have to wait till the movie hits the theatres.

ISM opens September 29.

We’ve done romance, we’ve done drama, now let’s try a combination of both. Yes, energetic star Ram is back in action with his next movie Hyper. Rashi Khanna plays the female lead in this movie which is directed by Santhosh Srinivas. Will Hyper create enough hype around it? We await!

Hyper opens September 20.
